Sculpted by Suheryanto Hatmaja (and Erick Sosa for the unmasked head) and released in 2017 with an edition size of 999 samples, the Iron Man Classic is an another XM 1:4 scale statue which astounds for the quality of sculpt and painting, the care of details, the high level of the add-ons and the overall visual impact. The term Classic is a little misleading: the figure just exhibits few features actually close to the original superhero of the old Comics (masterfully depicted, for example, in the Classic Comiquette by Sideshow), as the armor "apparently" fitted on the body's musculature, the typical, horizontal strips on boots, gloves and at neck level or the bright red and gold tones of te suit. For the rest, however, the main traits are quite modern and, in my opinion, very original! At any rate, the statue is simply awesome and a very fine representation of the hero, who exhibits a triumphant pose on the remains of two robots with the typical facial features of Ultron. The statue is rather heavy (more than 12 Kg) and represents a perfect 1:4 scale, with a height of 55 cm and a plan size of approximately 42x32 cm. The sculpt is simply spectacular: the torso of the armor exhibits the deep contours of a hyper-defined musculature on pectorals, abdomen and back, while the gold parts on arms and legs are divided into different, rather squared patches, which somehow remind the demarcation lines of muscles and, at the same time, provide the whole figure with a sophisticated, modern and very captivating look. As said, the other, red parts are more traditional, with boots and gloves characterized by high lapels and horizontal strips, also appearing at pube, where two large, circular plaques embellish both the hips of the character. Note the perfect design of feet, carved with a great attention to details, and the elegance of both hands: the left open and raised up, with the centered repulsor beam in good evidence, and the right holding the head of the robot with a great naturalness. Also the painting is outstanding: the red and yellow-gold colors of armor are faithful to Comics and very brilliant, with a slight metallic tone, while many scratches are scattered everywhere and well finished, thus giving a realistic, damaged effect. The large base deserves a special mention! The character stands on a rocky terrain, but the attention is fully captured by the remains of two beautifully sculpted and colored androids: note the fine, metallic silver color of their bodies, enriched with dark shades and a lot of scratches and dents, the typical, elongated and red triangular eyes of the Ultron mask and the great care paid to the many details of the inner, robotic mechanisms, which give a great appeal to the whole. As usual for XM pieces, the statue also offers some top-quality add-ons: two interchangeable upper parts of the armor, two heads (masked and unmasked) and an intriguing art print. One torso is splitted into rounded and classic zones, while the other shows more squared and modern patches, especially on back, where the spine is protected by a sort of tubular structure; moreover, both the parts have a centered hole where you can locate the powerful reactor of the hero, equipped with a small, trasparent orange porthole and a LED that can be switched on with a tiny internal switch. Also the heads are sculpted and painted very well. The masked head exhibits the most classic features of Comics tables, with a rather elongated shape, a flat patch on nose, slightly furrowed eyebrows, two circular pods at ears and rectangular openings on mouth and eyes, from which the blue pupils of the character are clearly visible. Nevertheless, in my humble opinion, the unmasked head has really the edge over! The facial traits depict very well the Stark's peculiarities: a fascinating and thick hair, extremely smart eyebrows, mustache and goatee, elegant lineaments on nose, mouth and cheeks and two blue eyes with an intense gaze, like a true playboy! Among the many 1:4 pieces devoted to the hero, this XM statue stands out for its visual impact, the attention to detail and the great elegance of the whole: not very Classic, actually, but (in my humble opinion) one of the most attractive, original and successful statues of Iron Man available on market.
